A reissue of a real oddball album from 1979 by percussionist Bairy, who appears here with a large ensemble that includes a 2nd drummer/percussionist, synthesizers, Indian/eastern instruments, cello, clarinet, electric guitars and bass, trumpets, church organ, soprano sax and wordless male and femal voices. Pretty wild and spacious, this is not a free-form blow out, but something that pretty much resembles the title of the work translated into English: "dream game". Two long tracks and two short tracks. Unusual and interesting and recommended. - Wayside Music
A new discovery, not in the original book, and an excellent cross-culture fusion from an unknown Krautrock underground talent. - "The Crack In The Cosmic Egg"
Herbert F. Bairy is a percussionist and keyboardists. Traumspiel consists of four tracks (three of epic length) that feature hand percussion, synthesizer, wordless vocals, electric guitar, and various reeds. The music varies from spacey Popol Vuh-ish mysticism to heavy electric fusion. A bit all over the place thematically but still quite excellent. Kind of a weird disc (but in a good way) - highly recommended. - The Laser's Edge
"Traumspiel" is an album title with a special meaning. TRAUM ist the German word for "dream", SPIEL means „game". Since the days of Sigmund Freud we know, that a dream is so much more than only just a dream. And playing games is not that easy any more, too. Psychoanalysts say: Dreamers work hard. And nowadays hard working music-listeners should expect more than only just a "dream game". So Herbert F. Bairy created four musical playgrounds. The listening dreamer may find his own music in it. Critics will file the four tracks of this CD under "New Age" or something stupid like that. But Herbert F. Bairy's composition must not be hard like jazz or rock music heard so often before. Everytime the listener feels like having found the key to his music, Herbert F. Bairy will open the next door leading to another new playground. The TRAUMSPIEL takes place on different stages. Acoustic sounds meet HiTech, Folk-music meets computer-rhythms, West meets East -and vice versa. Listen just the way you like it. Because the TRAUM does not allow any rules for the SPIEL. - CD Notes
