Pearls Before Swine – The Use Of Ashes (1970)
Their fourth album (second for Warner/Reprise) released in 1970 continued the tradition of psychedelic dreamy poetic musing and added a small orchestra of strings to add a classical feel. The album features songs written by Tom Rapp whilst living in Holland including the superb “The Jeweler”. Subversive, tender, moving, goofy, maddening, and profound PBS and Tom Rapp created some of the best and timeless musical poetry of the ’60’s and ’70’s.

“Riegal” is supposed to be inspired by a true story: a prison ship sunk in the ocean during World War II. Tom Rapp read a story about it in the newspaper while he was living in the Netherlands, and was inspired to write this song. He and Elisabeth give it a compelling, haunting performance.
Wow! I can’t get enough of PBS and Tom Rapp.

I met this group in 72 or so when they were living in Woodstock, NY- They’d done a gig in NYC and were returning home via a beat up Dodge van and I was hitch hiking. Like a klutz when they told me who they were I said “Long time, no hear”,which was true if a little blunt- they couldn’t get arrested at the time.
But they were very sweet tempered and polite, handsome, and totally academic in dress.
Time has been kind to their efforts
very beautifull music
It seems pretty legendary
Lovely music. taro
