Hölderlin – Hölderlins Traum (1972)

Hölderlin – Hölderlins Traum (1972)

First album by this German band who started off with progressive folk rock leanings. This is possibly their best album richly textured and with a gorgeous female vocal and stands up with the best of seventies Kraut Rock for its invention and sheer class. A ravishing album, very folk, acoustic and dreamy with nice, abundant female vocals. This is their best and unique highly recommended effort they made. Celestial and floating kraut / folk music whose approach can be compared with Bröselmaschine, Emtidi and others. An eastern flavour is added by the use of the sitar, also a subtle jazzy guitar touch, mainly improvised for long solo interludes. Specials guests as Walter Westrupp, Peter Bursch contribute to make this album an inspired progressive rock item with many acoustic ingredients added in a kind of fusion style. Hölderlins Traum is very fine for every prog folk lovers.

So late last night I turned off the lights and lit the candles & burned some nag champa for a nice mellow listen.

I was expecting some flutes & ragas but instead there’s so much more going on with this music. From the very begining I found myself swept along for a musical ride that wouldn’t quit. The flow & energy of the musical textures are beautiful. Although the female vocals are not in english, it doesn’t matter. Listen to her vocals as an instrument and her passion comes through.

So if you like music that takes you places listen to this. There’s so much going on here musically I could listen to this many times.

I’m originally from their hometown and never heard the album – so this is a nice treat for me.

I still have this one on vinyl…yeah, a nice understated masterpiece and superior to their subsequent english-language oriented music (the truncated-title Hoelderlin, for example). Nice addition!

this amazing album made me rethink what music is all about. The music is so sublime, strange and beautiful that it escapes words.
The vocals makes me want to learn German.
I’m going to buy this record very soon. I wonder if their other Hölderlin albums are just as amazing.
